Our centre provides a friendly place to connect, learn, and belong.
Our Story
The Northgate Community Centre in Canterbury was originally the Garrison Theatre. It was part of a military barracks that was built on land developed by William Baldock, a property developer in the late 1700s. This historic building was repurposed in 1997 into the Northgate Ward Community Centre and since has served Canterbury's Northgate Ward for over 27 years. The building now hosts a thriving community hub, welcoming locals to social groups, classes, a café, support services, and more, providing a warm, open space dedicated to connection and support.
